Ottawa, ON – Digital Arts Resource Centre (DARC) is excited to announce the official launch of the DARC Indigenous Residency Program, presented with the support of The Hnatyshyn Foundation. DARC’s Indigenous Residency is a one-month intensive on-site artist residency offered to mid-career Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis) artists in the Ottawa-Gatineau region who are seeking to develop their current practice, experiment with a new medium, or continue an existing project. The first instance of this Residency will run from October 1 to October 31, 2024.
Artists in residence are provided with access to DARC’s facilities, including the DARC Microcinema, SOUNDSTAGE, Digital Edit Suite, and Recording Studio. Artists also have access to an array of audio-visual equipment and up to 16 hours of advisor time for the duration of their residency. Additionally, artists in residence are provided with an artist fee of $2,000, as well as $500 for an artist talk or the presentation of their work.
DARC is proud to partner with the Hnatyshyn Foundation to celebrate Indigenous artists in the Ottawa-Gatineau region and provide them with the resources they need to develop their work and continue to share their unique perspectives and stories with the artistic community.

The Hnatyshyn Foundation has supported a great number of Indigenous artists, and this new program reflects its commitment to continue doing so. I am not a digital artist myself – I am a theatre and music man – but if I were king of the world, there would be a million programs like this, for all artists. I put all my weight behind it,” shared Tomson Highway, OC, acclaimed Cree playwright, novelist and musician, and member of the Hnatyshyn Foundation’s Board of Directors.
The Residency is one of many steps DARC is taking towards reconciliation and recognition of the systemic injustices faced by Indigenous groups.

Ottawa, ON – Digital Arts Resource Centre (DARC) a le grand plaisir d’annoncer le lancement officiel du Programme de résidence autochtone du DARC, présenté avec le soutien de la Fondation Hnatyshyn. Le Programme de résidence autochtone du DARC est une résidence intensive d’un mois offerte aux artistes autochtones (Premières nations, Inuits et Métis) à mi-carrière de la région d’Ottawa-Gatineau qui souhaitent développer leur pratique actuelle, expérimenter un nouveau moyen d’expression ou poursuivre un projet existant. La première édition de cette résidence se déroulera du 1er au 31 octobre 2024.
Les artistes en résidence ont accès aux installations du DARC, notamment le Microcinema, la scène sonore (SOUNDSTAGE), la suite de montage numérique (Digital Edit Suite) et le studio d’enregistrement (Recording Studio) du DARC. Les artistes peuvent aussi utiliser un ensemble de matériels audiovisuels et reçoivent jusqu’à 16 heures de conseils pendant la durée de leur résidence. En outre, les artistes en résidence perçoivent un cachet de 2 000 dollars, ainsi que 500 dollars pour une conférence ou une présentation de leur travail.
DARC est fier de s’associer à la Fondation Hnatyshyn pour célébrer les artistes autochtones résidant dans l’Outaouais et leur fournir les ressources nécessaires pour développer leur travail et continuer à partager leurs perspectives et leurs histoires uniques avec la communauté artistique.
« Je suis impatient de voir sur quoi travaillera le ou la bénéficiaire de cette résidence. La Fondation Hnatyshyn a soutenu un grand nombre d’artistes autochtones et ce nouveau programme reflète son engagement à poursuivre dans cette voie. Je ne suis pas moi-même un artiste numérique – je suis un homme passionné de théâtre et de musique – mais si j’étais le roi du monde, il y aurait un million de programmes comme celui-ci, pour tous les artistes. J’y crois de tout mon cœur », partage Tomson Highway, OC, dramaturge, romancier et musicien cri de renommée internationale, et membre du conseil d’administration de la Fondation Hnatyshyn.
La résidence est l’une des nombreuses mesures prises par le DARC en vue de la réconciliation et de la reconnaissance des injustices systémiques subies par les groupes autochtones.
