Overview

Featuring baffled HVAC, a lighting grid, and a green screen, the DARC SOUNDSTAGE is a purpose-built video production facility for the independent projects of Extended Access members. This is a professional space,  approximately 600 square ft with a grid height of 13’, ideal for small projects requiring simple builds and great live audio recording. The DARC SOUNDSTAGE is located at 65 University Private, the University of Ottawa’s Morisset Library basement ( Level 00 ) near Cafe Nostalgica – a great meeting spot.

  • 1- Apple box set (full size, half size, quarter size and pancake);
  • 2-Matthews Hollywood Baby Jr. Triple Riser Stand. 
     

Booking Protocol

DARC is taking every precaution necessary to ensure the safety of our staff and membership. All DARC members must act in accordance with our COVID 19 protocols and security measures listed below. All DARC members are asked to wear a mask in our facilities, masks will be provided if you don’t have one. The failure to abide by our COVID 19 protocols will result in the nullification of membership. 

 

* Please note that our SOUNDSTAGE has a maximum capacity of 12 people. 

Please review each section before booking:

  • Have an Extended Access membership;
  • Pay the full estimated fees at the time of booking;
  • Submit a basic production schedule;
  • Complete the Safe Sets Certification and provide proof of completion to DARC staff.

In order to get their code and access card a member must:

    • Show proof of technical skills  – if needed.
    • Members (and members of the booking party) must wear a surgical-grade medical mask at all times while onsite (masks may be provided by DARC);
    • Members (and members of the booking party) must keep a physical distance of 6 feet from those who are not part of their booking party;
    • Members (and members of the booking party) must sanitize their hands upon entering or reentering DARC and the DARC SOUNDSTAGE;
    • Members (and members of the booking party) must keep both studio doors closed while using the space;
    • Members (and members of the booking party) are not allowed to bring in any other person not approved by DARC staff on set; 
    • Members (and members of the booking party) must clean the suite, work surfaces and doorknob at the end of their booking (with provided cleaning supplies). 
    • Make sure the space is clear and clean.
    • Leave the “access key” in the lock box present in the space;
    • Lock the space safely by setting up the alarm.
  • DARC staff will wear a mask at all times when onsite;
  • DARC staff will maintain physical distancing (6 feet) at all times;
  • All DARC staff members are fully vaccinated against COVID 19;
  • Medical grade masks, hand sanitizer and gloves will be available for member use while onsite for their booking;
  • The DARC SOUNDSTAGE will undergo a mandatory isolation period of 24 hours in between bookings;
  • The DARC SOUNDSTAGE will be sanitized thoroughly before and after each booking; 
  • If members (or members of the booking party) are experiencing any symptoms of COVID 19 or have any known exposure to COVID 19 before their booking they will be asked to cancel their booking at no charge. If symptoms or known exposure take place during or shortly after the rental period the renter will be asked to inform DARC as soon as possible via email: studio@digitalartsresourcecentre.ca;

Cancellations/no shows

Cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance. If less than 24 hours’ notice is given, members will be billed the full price of the booking. If a member does not show up for their booking, a penalty fee of $80 will be charged on top of the booking fees.

PARKING/LOAD-IN

Paying parking is available after 3PM at at the University of Ottawa K Parking lot, located on University Private, at the intersection of Cumberland Street.

5-minute parking is available at the Cumberland Street entrance for transportation of gear and props through the elevators. Parking is not included in your booking. You can access information about parking at the University of Ottawa here. Access to the loading dock may be coordinated with notice and only from Monday – Friday from 8AM to 4PM.

ACCESS

The DARC SOUNDSTAGE is wheelchair accessible via the two elevators located at the Cumberland Street entrance to the Morisset Library. This video production studio is located in the basement area of the building. Other entrances around the building can be accessed through stairs.

Non-Permitted Uses

The DARC SOUNDSTAGE is exclusively available for independent media projects. Commercial productions for which the director/creator does not retain copyright and artistic control are not allowed. Projects for which the director/creator is being paid under a commercial contract for content and or being produced for a commercial client for the purpose of advertising or promotion are not permitted.

Block Booking

The DARC SOUNDSTAGE is available seven days a week from 10 AM to 10 AM. Bookings are made for the time slots listed below, regardless of whether you need the entire block. This helps us keep our studio well maintained, clean and available when our members need it. Members are welcome to book more than one block at a time. Fees must be paid in advance of all bookings. Rates may vary depending on the configuration of the spaces and its use. 

 

* The prices listed here include only the space, the amenities listed below, and a basic light console. For more production elements, check our rental packages.

*When booking more than one day in a row you’ll be required to perform our after hours rules and security procedures.

 

DARC reserves the right to cancel bookings but will notify you as soon as possible in the event of any cancellations.

NOT-FOR-PROFIT AGREEMENT

Equipment and facilities are also available to not-for-profit groups and cultural organizations with annual operating budgets under  $1,000,000, and that are producing work that fits within DARC’s mandate. Contact studio@digitalartsresourcecentre.ca for more information.
