Meet our exciting addition to DARC’s extensive equipment catalogue: the ARRI Alexa SXT EV, a cinema-grade camera perfect for filmmakers. Now available for rent!
As the independent production scene grows in Ottawa, we believe it’s important to provide professional-grade equipment to independent producers; that’s where the ARRI Alexa SXT EV comes into play!
THE CAMERA
This camera can shoot up to 120 frames per second in ProRes or RAW in 4K (aka 3.2K) in anamorphic, open gate, 4:3, or 16:9 modes. Setting up your color space, frame rate, shutter angle, and shooting modes happens through interfaces on the camera body rather than through the viewfinder like most consumer cameras. In addition to this, the camera uses a PL mount system and comes with a range of cinema lenses, followfocus and matte box. For this reason, it must be used by two camera operators.
THE KIT
The ARRI rental package comes with the following:
- a Sigma 7 lens cinema prime kit
- 4 V-mount batteries & battery charger
- 2 cards (approximately 40 minutes each depending on format)
- a Bright Tangerine Revolvr Follow Focus & Misfit Kick Mattebox
RENTAL PERIOD
- As this is a multi-box production-orientated item , the ARRI rental period is one-week minimum.
- Media management is the responsibility of the member. The member should have access to the Codex Media Manager on their laptop or computer to offload and store their footage. During the orientations or proficiency tests, the member can record footage and can offload with staff support either in the edit suite or on their own laptop with the right codex media manager installed.
HOW TO RENT
To rent the ARRI Alexa, the following conditions must be met:
Prequalifying members
- If the member did not attend the ARRI workshop (8 hours of training), we require this online training (10 hours total) and 2 orientations with the tech department. Additional orientations can be booked as required.
- If the member has hired an IATSE/union-certified camera operator, they have pre-qualified to rent the ARRI for their independent, artistic media art production. This camera is no longer Netflix-approved so no one should be renting it to shoot pilots or Hallmark movies (which is against DARC’s mandate).
Qualifying members
If a member is qualified to rent:
- They will need a proficiency test. As always, we test the operator; the member may not be the camera operator.
- If a member/operator provides proof of IATSE or other union membership, we don’t test. If the member/operator is a permittee, e.g. new to the union, a proficiency test will be at our discretion.
- Insurance: While the ARRI is covered by our insurance, we would want members to have proof of their own production insurance for rental. Recommendations include Frontrow and Assurart.
To inquire about renting the ARRI, please follow the protocol outlined on the Equipment Rental page.
