The Teenage Engineering’s OP-Z: A Portable Synthesizer & Sampler

Written by Expert Digital Artist Member D.R.P.

Need interesting sounds for your podcast or video art? Looking to get into sampling/ beat making, or maybe you wanna see what the synth hype is all about?! DARC’s got you covered!

Teenage Engineering’s OP-Z is a portable 16-track sequencer that comes loaded with built-in synth and sample sounds. Don’t like the included samples, or maybe you wanna make soundscapes using recordings of your dog yawning, It’s really easy to upload your own samples. The free Teenage Engineering app (iOS/Android) allows you to upload your own sounds and also serves as a display which allows you to easily tweak all of the different parameters.

The super portable synth runs on a long-lasting battery (6 hours) and is great for making beats and soundscapes on the go. Another really interesting feature of the OP-Z is the fact that you can create and control both 2d and 3d live visuals using Unity or the camera on your connected iOS/Android device.

The OP-Z is perfect for anyone already familiar with synths/samplers as well as those unfamiliar who would like to start making beats and soundscapes. The device is fairly easy to learn and comes with an easy-to-follow template-based guide that will have you up and working in no time!
