Shining a Light on DARC’s Dedo lights

Any cinematographer will agree lighting is an art form in itself. Whether you’re looking to replicate sunlight or draw dramatic contrasts, DARC has the perfect piece of equipment for you: the Dedo lights.

Our Dedo package includes 3 lights: 1x DLED3-BI and 2x DLED7-BI. All three can produce colour temperatures ranging from the warm tones of 2700K to the crisp clarity of 6500K.

The most impressive feature of these lights is their ability to replicate the entire spectrum of sunlight. This allows you to recreate golden hour at any time of the day and ensures your subjects are bathed in the most flattering and natural light. You can easily adjust the brightness as well as the colour temperature on the power supply that is attached to each light. With the same ease of access, you can manipulate the spread of light from spot to flood using the yellow ring on the light’s body.

DLED3-BI, the smallest of these lights, offers battery-powered functionality through a convenient D-Tap connection, meaning you can light up remote locations. Pixie Cram, a DARC member and recipient of the Media Art Production Fund, recently used our Dedo lights to shoot in an ‘off grid’ location because of their small footprint and portability.

For an additional $75 a week, this kit comes with extra light stream accessories. These include intensifiers, which can magnify the beam’s output by four, ideal for using reflectors! Reflectors help replicate sunlight by making the light source seem further than it is. Our reflectors come in two different sizes for ease of use depending on the set’s needs. Likewise, you can modify and shape your light with the imagers that slide onto the front of the light and attach shutters or gobos.

Expert Digital Artists can book the Dedo lights for $125 a week; we recommend adding the accessory kit to the Dedo light rental to bring your cinematic vision to life. Getting the most out of the Dedos takes some practice, so we’re happy to give you some training on them and ensure you’re making the most of your equipment rental.
