Recording Studio, Audio Gear & Software

DARC Recording Studio

Did you know DARC has a full feature recording studio available to members? The recording studio and it’s attached control room are perfect for recording live music with multiple instruments, podcasts, sound effects/foley work, and voiceovers. It’s equipped with an iMac computer loaded with music and video production software (see below), and two audio interfaces, the Focusrite Clarett 8PreX and Focusrite Clarett 8Pre, totaling 16 X analog (XLR or ¼”) inputs for your instruments and microphones. For simple projects, there’s a Blue Yeti USB mic in the booth, guaranteeing easy, quality recordings. The best part is that it’s available to members for as little as $15 for a two-hour block.

Izotope RX 9 Audio Restoration Software

Izotope RX is the leading audio restoration and clean-up software. Its user-friendly interface is used to remove unwanted hiss or buzz from audio projects. It’s even more popular for the Dialogue Isolate feature, which removes everything from a recording except for Dialogue, and the Ambient Match feature, which makes it possible to apply ambient noise from one recording to another, creating continuity and consistency across recordings. To take advantage of this software, book a session in our recording studio or rent our production-ready MacBook Pro laptop and level up the audio in your next project!

Soma Laboratory Ether V2

Part of the DARC Digital Toolkit Library (and available to rent by all producing members) the Soma Ether is a unique device that records electromagnetic fields. Instead of being tuned to a radio station, this wide-band receiver receives all the interference that a traditional radio tries to eliminate. Its made from two antennas, adjusted by a sensitivity and volume dial. Connect it to a portable audio recorder to capture novel sounds ideal for experimental shorts, soundscapes, or audio installations.
