Filmmaking Essentials: Zoom F4

In the world of filmmaking, there’s no denying the critical role that audio plays. Whether you’re working on a production that demands precise time code syncing or handling multiple microphone inputs, it’s essential to equip yourself with the right tools to capture pristine sound; meet the Zoom F4.

What sets the F4 apart from other devices is its four independent XLR inputs. This means you can work with various mics (boom with or without phantom power, lavs, dynamic) and with each one’s characteristics. Each input can be recorded to an independent track or channel, and you can record all channels in one file. The recording options make it quite versatile to ensure your recordings are exactly what you want (for example, record .wav to card 1 and .mp3 to card 2)

Another proud feature of the F4 is its ability to record one mic as two different channels to accommodate for volume changes and peaks from the subject. This is great when you’re interviewing an opera singer, and they break into a verse from Carmen.

If that didn’t impress you, you could record an additional 5th and 6th track with a zoom mic capsule. To get you started on your audio journey, our Zoom F4 kit includes two 32GB SD cards and eight batteries, giving you storage and power for hours of uninterrupted recording.

Digital Artists can rent the Zoom f4 for $45.00 per week.
