Tender Circuits

Our digital network has been put to task in the last two years. Its platforms and functionalities have provided multiple spaces for us to connect, come together, change and challenge very problematic, racist & extractive societal structures. Having said that, educational and social reflexivity previously granted by physical gallery space has not easily been achieved online. Virtual platforms function differently than the gallery. With this in mind,  we created Tender Circuits, an Online Hub that provides access, education, connection, experience, affect and both audience &  self-reflexivity.

Tender Circuits is a community experiment and an online exhibition of site-specific augmented reality works. Using the concept of fungal intelligence as a springboard, our artists were asked to consider the connections of the mycelial system and to apply those fungal characteristics to community building, digital spaces and physical spaces. Over the course of 16 weeks, 10 artists from across North America participated in an immersive online residency. Through seminars, they learned AR app development from artists who each engage with site-specific interventions in their own artistic practices and examine the potential of mutually supportive exchanges between specific physical locations through the digital realm.
