This two-day introductory workshop is aimed at filmmakers who are interested in learning how to create simple 3D models and animations using Blender, a free and open source 3D creation suite.
Each day will be divided into two halves (10am-1pm, 2pm-5pm) with a one-hour lunch break in between. In the first session, participants will be guided through the creation of a low-poly 3D landscape. Working through this example, they will be introduced to the Blender interface and learn how to add, edit, and colour 3D objects. They will also be shown how to position virtual cameras and frame shots, how to add lights and adjust shadows, and how to render still images of their scenes. In the second session, participants will be introduced to animation using an imported 3D character model. Starting with basic key-framing of location, rotation and scale they will then be shown how to rig the character with a skeleton and how to manually pose it and key frame the poses.
This is an in-person workshop offered at Digital Arts Resource Centre (67 Nicholas St, Ottawa). To participate in this workshop, all participants must be fully vaccinated and wear a mask while on site at DARC.
Participants interested in this workshop are also encouraged to take part in our Intro to Motion Capture workshop offered the following weekend on Saturday, November 26. Participants will learn the basics of targeting rigged characters with Rokoko suits and software. Please contact access@digitalartsresourcecentre.ca to learn more.
