Announcing the DARC Media Art Production Fund Recipients Fall 2024

Digital Arts Resource Centre (DARC) is proud to present Tatum Thompson and Stefan Supplice with the DARC Media Art Production Fund for Fall 2024! DARC’s Media Art Production Fund supports Extended Access DARC members in the creation of independent video and media art projects.

Tatum Thompson is a recent college grad from Algonquin College’s Film and Media Production program; class of 2023. Tatum currently works at an independent movie theatre part-time which gives her the time and opportunity to work on film sets and create their own films. In December of 2022, at only 17 years old, Tatum was offered her first option agreement for an original idea. After signing the agreement in April 2023, the idea continued to be shopped around. Throughout college, they practiced about every role on set while filming shorts with classmates assigned by professors. Her true passion in film is to write and direct. More specifically, write and direct films with queer and/or female casts/crews. Identifying as a queer female filmmaker themselves, queer and/or female made/led movies will always hold a special place in her heart. Not only does Tatum want to make writing and directing films their career, their goal with their films is to make a more inclusive space for queer and/or female artists. In their films, Tatum’s goal is to express themselves in a way that is unfiltered and pioneering to other queer and/or female filmmakers and film lovers.

Stefan Supplice (he/him) is a creative producer and storyteller working in film and digital media. He has led projects across magazines, podcasts, and documentaries, aiming to engage and challenge audiences. Recognized with the President’s Award for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion from the University of Ottawa, Stefan is currently producing his first feature documentary under Telefilm’s Talent to Watch program and is an alum of the Creative Producer Indaba program.

For his directorial debut, Stefan is crafting “Comeback Season: Beyond the Court,” a short documentary that delves into themes of resilience, self-discovery, and the transformative power of adversity. With the invaluable support of DARC’s Media Art Production Fund, Stefan reimagines the traditional sports documentary, shifting the focus to the emotional and psychological journeys of those who rise above challenges. Stefan aims to inspire audiences to view setbacks as opportunities for growth, making this film a powerful testament to the human spirit.

DARC’s Media Art Production Fund supports Extended Access DARC members in the creation of independent video and media art projects. The Media Art Production Fund was created to grant assist independent artists at any stage of their artistic practice. Extended Access members are invited to submit a detailed project proposal of any scale. Selected applicants will receive production support for their proposed project.

  • Up to 80% of DARC equipment rental for the proposed project;
  • Access to DARC’s equipment library;
