Job Call (March 2025) Community Access and Memberships Coordinator

Digital Arts Resource Centre (DARC) seeks a part-time Community Access and Memberships Coordinator to support the development and execution of DARC’s membership services and community access activities.

The Community Access and Memberships Coordinator will support the programming and education department in the development of artistic professional development opportunities that engage with DARC membership and the public in DARC’s member spaces, The Loop and the DARC Microcinema, with a diverse range of artistic opportunities that focus on skill building and growth in the media arts. They will also be responsive to the needs of the community while contributing to the development of new community outreach programs.

The Community Access and Memberships Coordinator is responsible for supporting DARC’s membership base and membership services by stewarding positive member relations and providing exciting new membership opportunities while building strong community ties and forging new relationships with partners/stakeholders on behalf of the centre.

This position welcomes an individual who is enthusiastic about Ottawa’s media arts community, who has an adventurous approach to community engagement and outreach while breaking down access barriers and advocating for DARC’s diverse membership. This position is a good fit for an individual who is collaborative, organized and has excellent time management/communication skills.

This position is part-time, 24 hours per week, with the potential to become full-time on the success of additional funding.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in film studies, production, interactive media, fine arts, not-for-profit management, or arts management; 
  • 2+ years experience working in areas like: not-for-profit arts, culture and heritage spaces or centres; festivals; and / or not-for-profit / charitable arts education; 
  • 1+ year experience working in a coordinator capacity is a strong asset;

COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS 

  • Proven strength in community building, teamwork and/or project management; 
  • Able to troubleshoot and problem solve in various “thinking on your feet” scenarios;
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment; collaboration is an important part of this role, as is the ability to work with DARC’s members directly;
  • Effective in working with and mentoring interns or work-placement students; ability to supervise or train new artists, staff and collaborators;
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to oversee multiple projects, prioritize, make decisions independently, be self-motivated and consistently meet deadlines; 
  • Ability to think ahead, pro-actively working on upcoming projects during periods that are slower or while waiting for answers/results;
  • Strong customer service, administrative, and organizational skills; excellent time management, detail oriented; 
  • Competency across various media art tools is considered an asset; an active media artist who builds community connections, pursues media art projects, and hosts a strong media art skillset, is a strong asset;
  • Strong communication skills: confident in speaking with members and the public in person, by phone and by email; confident in working with contract staff and collaborative partners; able to communicate effectively with fellow staff and volunteers;
  • Working at Heights training, or willingness to obtain, is an asset;
  • A valid driver’s license is considered an asset.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS 

  • Understanding of how to navigate member portals or databases like AMS (Arts Management System), programming catalogues, and searching for new media;
  • Experience with digital and media art tools, both traditional, experimental and open source, is considered a strong asset; willingness to learn new technologies and softwares;
  • Strong programming skills and experience in programming public media art programs is a very strong asset; 
  • Strong inclusion, diversity, equity and access (IDEA) awareness and ability to perform duties with care and consideration through these lenses;
  • Understanding of working within budget and overseeing budget maintenance; Experience with processing invoices on programs like QBO (Quickbooks Online) is a strong asset;
  • Experience in the not-for-profit sector considered a strong asset; Understanding of intersectional feminism is desirable;
  • Awareness of artist-run culture and the unique challenges of this sector is considered a strong asset;
  • Experience working in a Google Workspace;
  • Ability to speak French or a second language is considered a strong asset.

COMPENSATION

Salary: Part-time position, 24 hours per week, $21.00 per hour. Potential for the position to become full-time depending on funding and capacity needs.

This position is a member facing, on-site role at Arts Court in downtown Ottawa that will fit within DARC’s working hours, 10-5 PM (Mon-Wed) and 10-6 PM (Thurs-Fri). There is no parking on site. All staff must make themselves available to be onsite as requested by management or as required by their duties outlined above. Occasional after hours, weekend and offsite attendance may be required or requested as necessary for public programming events. Some staff travel and development opportunities may take place remotely on evenings and or weekends.
