It’s never too early to start planning your winter break and 2025 projects, so here are some key dates to note for DARC’s tech department coming up.
HOLIDAY CLOSURE
DARC will close from December 21 – January 5 2025; Arts Court will be closed from December 24 – January 1 2025. DARC will reopen on January 6, 2025.
That means the return of our ever popular 3-for-1 equipment rental deal! When you book equipment before the closure, you pay for 5 days but keep the equipment for up to 21 days! That’s 3 weeks and you’re paying for 1! Deck the halls indeed.
Equipment must be returned no later than noon on Thursday January 9; please you the calendy link provided in your booking to secure pickup and drop off. Equipment pickups will be from 10am-6pm. Please have your gear request in to rentals@digitalartsresourcentre.ca no later than Monday December 16.
If you need the loading dock, please contact us for availability.
Extended Access members can book the Recording Studio* or the Digital Edit Suite for the ‘after hours’ pricing during the entire closure. You will need to sign out an access card to enter the building December 24 onward. First time bookers will need an after hours orientation. Please book your keys, days and times by Tuesday December 17. First time bookers will need to attend an after-hours orientation on Thursday December 19. We can book two members on the same day if time allows, so book early to ensure your slot is secured.
*We cannot guarantee a quiet environment after 5pm due to Club SAW activities.
INVENTORY
On Friday January 10 we will close rentals until January 31 in order to do a comprehensive inventory. Our new tech manager will get elbow deep with all our equipment during this time.
Because this was the last year of the Canada Council’s equipment acquisition grant, we will need to do some heavy lifting to rearrange the depot as a usable workplace. We are now seeking volunteers to help! All levels of membership can volunteer; duties include physically inspecting equipment, making sure items are where they are supposed to be, and counting batches of cables, stands and adapters. Firmware updates will be needed on a case by case basis. In addition to our deepest gratitude, you can expect to learn more about our resources, what things are used or and why milk crates and wagons are truly the unsung heroes of our industry.
TO NOTE
If you have misplaced something at DARC within the last 3 months, it may very well be in our lost and found bin! We will be emptying the box by December 6 so please contact us or drop by to see if your missing item is there.
DARC’s Microcinema will be closed for equipment upgrades and maintenance from November 22nd onward. Please join us for Lost In Translation on November 21, and stay tuned for Visual AIDS Day without Art Screening December 1-6.
Thank you for your understanding!
