What you need to know: Music Videos

Music video making is a great introduction to filmmaking since you can learn the creative processes in a short and condensed period of time, especially when in the beginning, you don’t have a lot of resources and help.
This 4-week Indie Music Video it’s designed for aspiring filmmakers who would like to learn how to conceptualize their project and collaborate with a musical artist or band. This course will guide you from budgeting to props to editing, learn how to plan and finish a music video with active professional music maker, Yanran Zhu.
Yan is a filmmaker and video artist based in Toronto. Fascinated by storytelling and experimenting with different film formats and media, she is emerging fiercely, collaborating with bands and artists in the music/art scene. Yan holds a MA in Film Studies from Carleton University where she focused her research on colonialism and the cinema. Her work aims to actively pursue social justice issues and challenging systemic racism. She believes in the power of collective healing and wants to create a safe and comfortable space where different ideas are welcomed and heard.
April 22nd – Preproduction: moodboard +creative direction + budgeting
April 29th – Preproduction: storyboarding + set design + styling + call sheet
May 6th – Production: filming: lighting + Camera + directing
May 13th – Post Production: Editing + coloring
