From July 15th to August 8th, Peter Rahul’s “nosignal” will be shown on the 3rd floor of the CF Rideau Centre as part of Vector Festival’s multi-site exhibition “Infinite Scroll” which showcases GIF artworks that use abstraction and repetition to simulate the hypnotic effects of social media scrolling. GIFs by Khadija Aziz, Justine Durand, Peter Rahul, and Shaheer Zazai are presented, respectively, by Factory Media Centre (Hamilton), InterAccess (Toronto), Digital Arts Resource Centre (Ottawa), and Trinity Square Video’s Virtual Vitrine (online).
The video loop nosignal is a relic of Peter Rahul’s earliest experiments with “no input” video synthesis. This technicolor generative pattern is the result of contemporary glitch methodologies employed on a video mixer from the 1980s. nosignal sparked nearly a decade of experimentation with antiquated video technology in Rahul’s multiple creative disciplines.
Peter Rahul is a Toronto-based visual artist who specializes in video and interactive installation. His research into vintage video equipment and contemporary computer graphics results in video art that looks simultaneously futuristic and nostalgic. Rahul’s art practice has taken the form of animation, stage design, interactive video sculptures & VHS mixtapes. Peter Rahul currently sits on the board of BUMP TV, Toronto’s online public access television station.
Vector Festival is a participatory and community-oriented initiative organized by InterAccess that is dedicated to showcasing digital games and creative media practices.
