Join us on July 17th in the DARC Microcinema for a screening of multidisciplinary disability arts group Ghost Rooster Collective’s short film Dreamscapes, followed by a masterclass on Accessible Film.
THE FILM
Dreamscapes is a genre-blurring experimental film exploring mental health, alternate realities, and the complexities of healing. Rooted in an intimate interview with Amelia Rose Griffin, the film integrates surreal visuals, layered soundscapes, and embodied movement to capture the complexity of existing within shifting mental landscapes. By inviting viewers into Amelia’s unique reality, Dreamscapes challenges conventional, medicalized narratives of disability, offering a deeply personal perspective.
Director Rachel Gray of Ghost Rooster collective says that Dreamscapes is “a celebration of strength — the kind of strength that is also fragile, that rebuilds itself over and over. For me, the film is about showing people unique worlds and aesthetics, using colour and dance to transform difficult experiences into spaces of connection and humour. We want to remind audiences of the infinite space that exists inside every person, and their own capacity to imagine and create.”
THE MASTERCLASS
The screening will be followed by an Accessible Film Masterclass. The collective will discuss how access is a creative motivator and how it shaped the film and filming process, from creation to reimagining the typical filming day schedule.
