DARC Social Club. Member Meetup. 67 Nicholas St. October 25, 2024 @ 5PM.

DARC Social Club

Introducing the DARC Social Club, open to all our active members. Social Club is a safe space for members to socialize, vent, or simply just ✨exist✨

Whether you’re an artist, filmmaker, musician, writer — or just passionate about the arts! — this is the perfect space to connect with like-minded folks in a cozy, welcoming environment, hosted by longtime DARC collaborators Deena A. Alsaweer and Nickie Shobeiry.

WHAT IS THE DARC SOCIAL CLUB?

Artists often are stressed with juggling multiple jobs/gigs, trying to find that next big idea, or just the pressure to create and learn while building your career. Enter the DARC Social Club, a safe space for artists to hang out, chat, make friends, and relax. This is a place for artists to talk to like-minded creatives and exhale all the outside noise.

What to expect:

  • Snacks, soft drinks, and laid-back conversations (no awkward icebreakers, promise 🙃)
  • Fun activities like writing a letter to your future self ✍️
  • A whiteboard for sharing your creative “asks” and “offers” with the community
  • An opportunity to brainstorm ideas for future meet-ups

With low-effort optional activities to keep the social energy rolling, attendees can participate in fun get-to-know-you activities or take it easy on the sidelines. There are no expectations in this space – attendees are encouraged to do whatever calls to them. Bring a friend (the more the merrier 👯‍♀️), share your creative challenges, and let’s get inspired together. No pressure, no formalities – just a supportive space to hang out.

WHEN IS THE DARC SOCIAL CLUB?

Come join us on October 25th at the Loop for the first-ever meetup of the DARC Social Club to get to know your fellow DARC members, participate in some fun activities, and discover a space where you are encouraged to ✨just chill✨

Future DARC Social Club meetups will occur bi-monthly, with occasional guest speakers and artist talks. Keep your eyes on our website + socials for future announcements!

About DARC's Free Events

Digital Arts Resource Centre (formerly SAW Video) is a not-for-profit, artist-run media art centre that fosters the growth and development of artists through access to equipment, training, mentorship, and programming. Our mission is to support a diverse community of media artists empowered by technology, programming and the exchange of ideas.

Our core principles are independence of expression, affordable access to all, and paying artists for their work. Digital Arts Resource Centre values diversity and actively promotes equity for all artists regardless of race, age, class, gender, sexual orientation, language, or ability.

We acknowledge that Digital Arts Resource Centre is located on land that is part of the unceded and unsurrendered Traditional Territory of the Algonquin people. We honour the Algonquin people and elders, whose ancestors have occupied this territory since time immemorial, and whose culture has nurtured and continues to nurture this land and its people.
