DARC is proud to once again partner with the Hnatyshyn Foundation to present the DARC Indigenous Residency. New this year, the DARC Indigenous Residency will be open to Indigenous artists from across Canada!
The Indigenous Residency
This one-month intensive on-site artist residency is offered to mid-career Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis) artists who are seeking to develop their current practice, experiment with a new medium, or continue an existing project.
Artists in residence are provided with access to DARC’s facilities, including the DARC Microcinema, Soundstage, Digital Edit Suite, and Recording Studio. Artists also have access to an array of audio-visual equipment and up to 16 hours of advisor time for the duration of their residency. Additionally, artists in residence are provided with an artist fee for their work as well as for an artist talk or presentation following the residency period and free access to cultural events and workshops with DARC and partnering organizations. Out-of-town artists will receive subsidies for both housing and travel expenditures.
Artists are invited to find creative ways to experiment with video and moving images, the distribution of sound, and other tactics for presentation and audience engagement. The Indigenous Residency seeks to create a collaborative environment where hands-on technological play is encouraged. We welcome proposals for works in a variety of disciplines including film, video, animation, web-based art, sound art, AR/VR, interactive and time-based digital projects, and media art installations. Artists will work with an artistic advisor of their choosing or an Indigenous advisor recommended by DARC.
Following the residency, artists are expected to participate in an artist talk to discuss their practice and share works in progress or any completed projects from their residency.

DARC est fier de travailler à nouveau avec la Fondation Hnatyshyn pour présenter la Résidence autochtone du DARC. Cette année, la résidence autochtone du DARC sera ouverte aux artistes autochtones vivant n’importe où au Canada!
La Résidence autochtone
Cette résidence intensive d’un mois est offerte aux artistes autochtones (Premières nations, Inuits et Métis) à mi-carrière qui cherchent à développer leur pratique actuelle, à expérimenter un nouveau médium ou à poursuivre un projet en cours.
Les artistes en résidence ont accès aux locaux du DARC, notamment au microcinéma, au SOUNDSTAGE (plateau d’enregistrement), à la salle de montage numérique et au studio d’enregistrement du DARC. Les artistes ont également accès à un ensemble d’équipements audiovisuels et jusqu’à 16 heures de temps de consultation pour la durée de leur résidence. En outre, les artistes en résidence reçoivent un cachet pour leur travail ainsi que pour une présentation de l’artiste après la période de résidence et un accès gratuit à des événements culturels et des ateliers avec le DARC et des organisations partenaires. Les artistes ne vivant pas dans la région d’Ottawa-Gatineau auront accès à des subventions pour le logement et les frais de déplacement.
Les artistes sont invités à trouver des moyens créatifs de jouer avec la vidéo et les images en mouvement, la distribution du son et d’autres tactiques de présentation et d’engagement du public. La résidence autochtone cherche à créer un environnement collaboratif où le jeu et l’expérimentation technologiques sont encouragés. Nous acceptons les propositions d’œuvres dans une variété de disciplines, y compris le film, la vidéo, l’animation, l’art basé sur le web, l’art sonore, la réalité virtuelle, les projets numériques interactifs et temporels, et les installations d’art médiatique. Les artistes travailleront avec un conseiller artistique de leur choix ou un conseiller autochtone recommandé par le DARC.
À l’issue de la résidence, les artistes seront tenus de participer à une présentation sur leur pratique et à partager leurs travaux en cours ou tout autre projet achevé pendant la résidence.
