Jessie Simmons
Introducing Jessie Simmons, an award-winning Haitian-Canadian artist from Ottawa, Ontario, celebrated for her powerful, soulful voice and vibrant Afro-Caribbean sound. With her debut album AMONI earning “Album of the Year” at the Kilimanjaro Music Awards, Jessie has made a mark on the global music scene. Known for her electrifying performances and passionate stage presence, she brings a unique blend of rhythm and emotion that connects deeply with audiences. Prepare to be mesmerized by Jessie Simmons as she delivers an unforgettable live experience!

International Dance Fusion
International Dance Fusion is an Ottawa-based dance collective known for high-energy performances that blend hip hop, amapiano, afrobeat, dancehall, coupé-décalé, and biama. Formed nearly two years ago, the group celebrates cultural diversity and connection through movement. With a mission to unite communities through dance, they’ve performed at events like Can Gato, OIC, uOttawa’s Student Life Awards Gala, and the International House Gala (uOttawa).

Empress Nyiringango
Ottawa-based Rwandan Canadian singer-songwriter Empress Nyiringango is a self-taught musician showcasing the self-coined Jablur sound, which stands for jazz, blues, and Rwandan. This distinctive fusion features Rwanda’s oldest instrument “Inanga” (Zither) and contemporary music sounds. Saddened by the heinous crimes of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, she embarked on an arduous healing musical journey to convey messages of resilience, compassion, hope, unity, and peace to the world. She’s the laureate of the “Emerging IBPOC” artist award presented by the Ottawa Arts Council. Her second album has been nominated for the Canadian Folk Music Award 2024 in the category of Global Roots Album of the Year. Empress Nyiringango is inspired by love, hardships, and many great artists across the globe. She performs and provides music workshops for residents in long-term care through Radical Connections. She holds a master’s degree in education from the University of Ottawa; she is also a teacher, freelance actress, and storyteller.

Malaïka
Malaïka is a mezzo-soprano and composer. Incredibly passionate about art in service of activism, she collaborated with Dr. Mara Catherine Harvey, Switzerland & Europe CEO of VP Bank, to put her children’s book into a song about sustainable and ethical financial literacy. Additionally, her musical interpretation of the SDGs has been performed live for children from the African Diaspora in Montreal. It has also been used by Future Earth, Sustainability in the Digital Age, Sustainability in the Digital Age and the Canadian Science Policy Centre as a prelude to two events in a National Dialogue series funded by the Government of Canada’s Sustainable Development Goals Funding Program.
Musical projects include an original classical album, Painted Flowers, Call Me What I Become, a five-minute short film in collaboration with young animators worldwide celebrating Rwandan Baby Mountain Gorillas, The Tide is Strong, a piece for solo piano, and a pop song titled Sunrise. Malaïka has performed her original art songs with Hors Pairs Social, Small Fish, Page Rwanda, Pieces of Us, The Shed, Bagelshop Musicfest, and atelier academy. Malaïka is currently preparing for her recital celebrating the end of her bachelor’s and her album Painted Flowers.

Dark Room
Dark Room is a 3-piece indie/alternative rock band with Middle Eastern and North African roots. Recently formed in Ottawa, the band features Alya on lead vocals, Raph on guitar, and Zanou on drums. With each member bringing their unique taste to the mix, they enjoy playing with soulful vocals, groovy licks and solos, and funky beats. Taking inspiration from various artists like Arctic Monkeys, Towa Bird, and Briston Maroney, they’ve been working on their original songs and developing their distinct sound.
