Collective Sound Listening

October 26, 2024

1 PM - 4 PM EST

Overview

Collective Sound Listening (CSL) is a semi-guided soundwalk and listening session organized by Maxime Gordon. During the walk participants pair up and share a field recorder and are encouraged to explore various ephemeral sounds in the landscape without obligation to record audio. Each walk is unique and usually takes place in different locations across Montreal – exceptionally this walk will take place at Strathcona park in Ottawa. The goal is simple: let’s listen to sounds in the city, together.

We’ll begin the workshop with an introduction to sound listening and multi-channel listening, followed by a soundwalk in two parts: one with field recorders and headphones and one without.

DARC’s educational offerings are open to members and the general public engaged in the creation of non-commercial, independent productions and work.

Workshop Pricing

DARC’s single-session online workshops are offered on a sliding scale, meaning individuals determine their own fee based on what they can afford.

We understand that everyone’s situation is different. When registering for workshops, we ask that you honestly examine your privilege (i.e. education, generational wealth, parental or community support, partnership status, and other circumstances that may provide a safety net when financial setbacks occur).

DARC also offers a no cost ticket option if access to funds is a barrier to participation. For more information please email us.
